Packaging review: Finding better ways to keep your orders safe

Starting in 2019, we began to audit our packaging use, from cardboard boxes to plastic wrap and strapping. Where can we reduce the packaging we use while keeping orders safe in transit?

The audit identified several areas for improvement, such as increasing the percentage of recycled cardboard used in our boxes, reducing the micron thickness of plastic wrapping and removing printed text from boxes and tape.

The review is ongoing but we’ve already taken steps to improve the environmental credentials of our packaging materials. The work has fed into a procurement process which is currently underway. Our goal is that, by 2021, we will have in place a packaging supplier that meets our sustainability needs while ensuring that all our products reach their destination safely and securely.

• Our cardboard boxes are made from over 70% recycled materials and can be recycled
• We reuse packaging from our suppliers for onward distribution
• We use paper packaging tape rather than plastic
• We use a reduced micron plastic for our pallet wrapping
